Somehow for some strange reasons, I havent been able to erase the memories of this day. May, 19th 1999. Time flies, 15 years back it was when Sachin Tendulkar lost his father during the Cricket World Cup in England and he rushed home. A big blow to the team indeed but India did have the batting firepower to go out and chase 253 in 46 overs against a reasonably good Zimbabwean bowling attack. Was visiting my dad at Agartala. He had hired a huge 29 inch colour Videocon TV for the World Cup and Sourav Ganguly began the chase with an exquisite straight drive off Eddo Brandes. Thought he would win it and after a lot of ups and downs throughout, one Henry Olonga over made the difference. 3 wickets and Zim sealed it, denting Indias chances. That loss made the difference for India in a tournament with so many strong teams as they failed to carry the extra two points to the Super Six stage. Yes, been 15 years!
