Someone asked. We kept ticket prices to the 3 music events at a minimum ($19.21) to try to ensure most people could afford to attend. But the ticket revenues pay for more than the music; they pay for the tent, floor, 600 chairs, insurance, security, and on and on. Very expensive. Overall Celebration budget of $50K approx. This is one reason we didnt bring in the likes of Bobby Curtola whose gig fee is $50K. And others. It would have meant inflating ticket prices thereby reducing the likelihood that many in our target group could afford them. Even at $19.21 some people cant swing it. And well try to find some of those people and get them to a concert. I am grateful to the Jazz Bandits who will play two full concerts for free just to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime event. But I did apply for and get a SAB grant to cover their gas & mileage for the car pool they will travel in from Regina to Moose Jaw and back. The other musicians will get paid. Selling out all 3 nights will help with that but charging huge ticket prices was against the spirit of what we are doing in the first place and would have eliminated any hope for many of attending. Anyway tickets are selling. I hope we sell out. We need to sell out. Thanks for listening. Ive been asked a few times about what Im paying musicians. This is not a gig for full-time professionals as we cannot afford them unfortunately.
