Someone asked me few days ago why must psoriasis folks make such a big deal about discrimination and to fight for more love and affection. People suffer discrimination all the time. Allow me to answer this. She is right. Everyone suffers discrimination at some point or another. But it is usually not for prolonged periods of time. I have had psoriasis for almost 20 years now and if you would take a video cam and follow me around for just one day and observe how people react and behave, u will know just how I feel. Just today for example, I was at the supermarket buying bread. The queue was extremely long and a Chinese auntie stood behind me. I noticed that she was looking at my arms and stood one metre away from me. I thought I was oversensitive so I did a little experiment. I pretended to stumble behind and by golly she ran out of the queue to queue at another queue! Education and awareness is definitely necessary so that other psoriasis sufferers can go out of the house confidently and not be affected by ignorant people of the disease. Many choose to stay at home and not go out due to psychological and emotional factors Thats why we are making such a big deal about it. So until the Singapore society is more aware of what psoriasis is and that it is not contagious, the fight for awareness continues...
