Someone asks : "What is your opinion on Black Friday"? Black - TopicsExpress

Someone asks : "What is your opinion on Black Friday"? Black Friday is the day some have set aside to wear black (in the heat) as a protest against the removal of fuel and maize subsidies. The simple answer is that I like "Black Friday". Although I am strongly in favour of the removal of subsidies, I fully support Black Friday. The reason is simple - it reflects a SPIRIT OF ENTITLEMENT. We need to feel more entitled in our country. We are entitled to lower fuel prices. We are entitled to lower food prices. We are entitled to zero corruption. We are entitled to a smaller government. We are entitled to a good constitution. We are entitled to good roads and rail. We are entitled to freedom of speech. We are entitled to high revenues on our mineral resources. We are entitled to good wages. We are entitled to politicians who listen to us. We are entitled to good hospitals.....I can go on! Simply put. Until we are begin feeling entitled we will never demand the true change we need in our country. I therefore support anyone who cultivates in the country a sense of entitlement. All well meaning Zambians should encourage other Zambians to oppose policies that they are not happy with. No one should be clobbered to death for exercising their democratic rights. We should defend these rights, even when we disagree with each other policies. My question is simple : Why only a "Black Friday" for maize subsidies? Why not on the massive amount of mineral revenues we have lost over the years? Why not on the rampant corruption in our government? Why not on large and bloated government? And why wait until now? If we had started Black Fridays in 1991 - perhaps life would be easier! We need more "Black Fridays" - not less. And I say, that whilst fully supporting the decision to remove subsidies! I see no contradiction!
