Someone got my back up on here earlier. Seemed to suggest that I wasnt paying enough prize money for my tournament. He neglected to take into account the following: 1. Rising venue costs - I use the two best facilities in the country and they are a business and therefore charge accordingly. Not all clubs do and settle for the increase in revenue the days bring and I greatly appreciate that. 2. Referees - I like to over-compensate on referees and I like to pay them a fair days wage. 3. Promotion - Marketing materials, posters to clubs all over the UK that need designing, printing and distributing to more than 80 outlets. 4. Free places - I dont go on about this but every year there are junior players that benefit from this and this year is no exception. 5. Players Packs - Every player gets one and they arent free to supply. 6. Personal Expenses - petrol, train tickets and hotels all over England - a huge expense for a total of 12 events, only 3 of which are a day round trip. 7. Prizes - Trophy last year cost over £200 and qualifiers prizes also cost over £100. 8. Add-ons - like supplying free drinks for players and guests etc at heats and Grand Finals Day. Last season every finalist got a personal unique cue towel, didnt have to do it but thought it was a nice touch. 9. The fact that I think doing all this at least deserves a small reward at the end of it for me and the Mrs, its a lot of hard work and ask yourself - would you work for free? 10. Paying for hotel rooms for further helpers on Grand Finals Day. 11. I actually buy leave from my real job to help me do all this, Im quite well paid so this also leaves a dent that needs filling. All in all, considering that every tournament runs the risk of not filling, giving up a minimum 7 grand in prize money is a risk. Some people need to think before criticising and perhaps come to an event and see for themselves. If any of the above points can be done cheaper the saving will go into the prize pot. Rant Over.
