Someone needs to throw a dictionary at these people. To think - TopicsExpress

Someone needs to throw a dictionary at these people. To think that this is the future generation that will lead this country. Hopefully they pull their head out of their asses before that happens. Ive gone into great detail over this in the past but it deserves repeating to remind folks of the meaning of words. Illegal: not according to or authorized by law merriam-webster/dictionary/illegal Alien: a : belonging or relating to another person, place, or thing b : relating, belonging, or owing allegiance to another country or government merriam-webster/dictionary/alien?show=0&t=1384021946 There are currently laws in the US that are in effect that cover lawful entry into this country, and those laws also define what is considered unlawful activity concerning such. (look up US Immigration laws - there are far too many to list here but they dot our entire history as a country) So since we have current laws regulating immigration; when you do something not according to or authorized by law they you have broken that law. So using the term illegal is a correct usage within the phrase illegal alien. When you belong to or owe allegiance to another country, you are an alien when in a different country other than your home country. If I go to Italy, legally or otherwise, then I am an alien in Italy. So, again, it is the correct form to use the word alien in the phrase illegal alien. Furthermore, to address the charge of racism that people often level against the usage of the phrase illegal alien, one must first understand the definition of racism. Racism: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race merriam-webster/dictionary/racism When you go back to the definitions of illegal and alien do you see any place in the definition that points to a specific race or the understanding that one race is somehow superior than another? Maybe I am just stupid or blind because I dont see it. The United States is a sovereign nation. We have declared and internationally recognized borders which define the boundaries of our nation. There are no disputes where our borders end and our neighboring countries, or international waters, begins. With that last paragraph being said... you are an illegal alien in the US if you come from any country in the world not in accordance with our current immigration laws. (that includes overstaying your lawful visa) That IS the proper definition of the words illegal alien. Banning the usage of the phrase is, at best, ignorance to the definition of words. thecollegefix/post/15260/
