Someone once made a very disturbingly false statement: we are not - TopicsExpress

Someone once made a very disturbingly false statement: we are not a bible reading Christian (Church)... And we replied: I want you to understand that we are in fact the only bible reading Church, since our understanding of Scripture is based upon reality; we know it was inspired by God, written by men (though God is the real Author), and those men who had the Spirit in them also spoke. They in fact verbally taught more than they wrote. Just as the Lord inspired them to write, he also moved them to speak. So Tradition is based first upon the common Sense of Faith (Sensus Fidei) of the community and the sense of Faith arising from their (Apostles) oral teaching, which has been handed down untainted throughout the ages. This is why we refer to both Scripture and Ecclesiastical (Church) Tradition. The Church in a sense perceives something to be in line with Tradition according to the movement of the Spirit of Christ and in adherence to these Apostolic Teachings. Many of these other Churches who claim to read the bible simply do injustice to the 2000-year-old life of the Church. They simply cut off all the experiences of the Christian community from their interpretation of Sacred Scripture, and this is not the way to go. The life of the community is vital in scriptural interpretation, their life is in fact a Sacred history since its a Life led by the Spirit of God; a life of a People chosen by God, a life of the Bride, of the Body of Christ the Lord, a life in progress; since we are heading to the promised Land, every little moment is vital to the fuller understanding of the Call we have received. If after some thousand years of the existence of this Church someone disregards all the Church has seen, learnt, taught and experienced throughout the ages, and simply tries to connect to Christ directly, what happens is the person jumps as far and as high as he can and simply lands on his own back, since you can no longer share in Christ without going through the Life of the Church, you can no longer touch Christ, hear him, or see him without going through his Community the Church. This is why he said to St Paul during his encounter Go into the city, you WILL BE TOLD what to do, he wants everyone to stay connected to this life, to interpret scripture as the Church grows and learns. May the Lords peace be upon you.
