Someone posted a picture of their child learning during this break, and a person commented, What! You have them learning on break? We must move past this way of thinking. Im not saying give your children a load of work, but there must be some sort of review going on over the break. Your childs teacher will thank you! Trust me! You have to realize that your child is out of school for two weeks. Do you understand the information thats lost in two weeks? When the child returns to school on January 6th, teachers are literally pulling their hair out, because they have to review old concepts that have already been taught. An example of what your break could look like would be: *10 minutes of reading with your child and answering questions after you read (comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, writing, & phonics) *3 word problems problems with an explanation of how the child got the answer (math, spelling, grammar,& writing) *exploring how an apple decomposes (science) *going to the museum using their latest history lesson (social studies) *going around the house and naming objects that begin with a certain letter (phonics) *Naming items that will fall into the categories- person, place and thing (language). Everything you do doesnt have to be sitting down with a paper and pencil. Use your imagination along with your childs curriculum, so when they return to school they will be ready to finish the year strong! #tylewis #educationallyspeaking
