Someone posted a question earlier about how a wife might react if her husband is checking out ladies on the street. It reminded me of this thing we went to last Friday. Two of my kids had displays at a big Showcase of Excellence put on by the schools in the county. Since it was a multi-school presentation, they needed a big space for all the entries and set up at a local high school. We went as a family so it was all seven of us, mashaAllah, and we saw the kids entries and tons of other great educational displays on virtually any topic you could think of. My son Yusef did a report on Monsa Musa, may Allah have mercy on him, a king of Mali in the 1300s, and my son Yasin was part of a group effort studying worms - much more interesting and scientific than you might think! It was a lot of fun to see everything but LET ME TELL YOU.... The girls! The high school girls! Subhan Allah. The weather was marginally warm, really lovely, so the high school girls were dressed in their warm-weather scantiest. There were two main types of clothing. Leggins and shorts. The leggings were skin-tight with crop tops and the fabric left NOTHING to the imagination. The shorts were almost as short as Daisy Dukes, but instead of having frayed ends they were cuffed up at the end, not that there was much fabric to cuff! These girls were practically naked! I am definitely of the opinion that leggings are not pants but no one else got the memo! Between the leggings and the shorts, I was afraid my husband would have to walk with his eyes closed. He was muttering about homeschooling our kids, and even moreso our daughter, after having been subjected to this overt display of flesh. La hawla wa la quwatta ila billah! May Allah help us to protect our sons and daughters and give them the tools they need to navigate this immodest environment, Ameen.
