Someone questioned me when commenting about another post of mine - TopicsExpress

Someone questioned me when commenting about another post of mine in which I called out the Ultra-Orthodox Jewish newspaper for insultingly visually disappearing the world leaders who came to march in solidarity with Frances Jewish citizens because they were female as to why I didnt write about the burqa etc. It then dawned on me that I live with a kind of visual confrontational cultural comment about the burqa every day of my life at breakfast because this is the travel poster I stare out every morning while Im eating my oatmeal or, indeed, sitting at my kitchen table and posting on here. I bought this poster years ago because I responded to its iconoclastic statement about the burqa - it both condemns it in a way while also delivering a message of tolerance on both sides of such a cultural equation re: women in the Muslim world. Some Muslims today might even consider this juxtaposition of these female images on this vintage travel poster insulting and condemn me for having it in my apartment. Maybe theyd accuse me of being anti-Muslim for owning it. So be it. I just find it an interesting statement since it is a complicated one - although Ive learned the past couple of days that people like their statements free of complicated discourse. A more simplistic, Manichaean world is what is longed for by some. For what it is worth in the context of the last few days, this is the visual background of my posting life here on Facebook. I have become so accustomed to it, that I failed to be aware until just now how appropriate it is in some way for what Ive been posting about today. Ill let you all interpret it since it is open for interpretation. And God knows, I have been interpreted - and misinterpreted - on here the last few days. Go at it.
