Someone suggested I run for office. Someone else wondered what my political views are. My views are that most things in your life are really none of the governments business. IMO, the governments job is to maintain and defend the state, maintain our infrastructure (roads, sea lanes, water, sewer, etc.), safeguard peoples individual rights from infringement and abuse, to enact what laws the people desire, and to enforce those laws in the manner the people want. I do NOT believe it is the governments job to create jobs, be involved in financial affairs, be involved in your healthcare, be involved in your faith, your food production or your recreation (provided it does not violate any of those laws the people said they wanted). It is not the governments business who you choose to spend your life with, nor what you call that person; if whether they are called your partner or your husband / wife impacts how much you love them, youre rather pathetic. I dont think it is the governments job to force you to save for your retirement, feed you, nor to make sure your rent is paid, with the possible exception of a person becoming incapacitated in service to the people. If you lead or have led a life where you have had a positive impact on society, I believe that society will provide for you (within reason) through its churches, neighborhoods and families. If not, then that society doesnt value you, either because you have been more of a liability than an asset, or because there is something wrong with the values of that society. In either case, natural selection will take care of the problem; the liability will pass, or that society will fall. I believe a representative of the people should communicate with their constituents, keeping in mind communication is a two-way street. I believe such a person should be a humble leader. I THINK THEY SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO THE SAME LAWS AND RULES AS EVERYONE ELSE! I believe they should abide by the will of the people, but not be afraid to say when they think what the people are asking is wrong. Being a representative of the people does not mean they are not entitled to an opinion, as well. If the people still want a thing, they should either obey, or resign on the grounds they are not willing to compromise their beliefs, ethics... whatever term you care to use. I believe a representative should listen to lobbyists, and be prepared to tell them to piss off if what they are suggesting is unethical. In any case, I think they should communicate those lobbyists messages to the people and see what the people think. I think there is a difference between coveting leadership and in being willing to lead. Leadership is something I seem to be pretty good at. I am not always a nice person. I disagree with people at times. I know a little bit about how to fight, which I believe is necessary at times. Sometimes I use profanity. Sometimes, I laugh at people. I dont like wearing a tie. I am mid-40s and trying to get my degree. Ive been divorced. Ive written checks that bounced and otherwise struggled to pay my bills and provide for my family. I rent, instead of own. I worry about the future, and I try to keep in mind I have to look at myself in the mirror every time I shave and not be ashamed of the man I see. I do the best I can in any given situation, and I think that is all anyone can ask of a person. I am just like you. Now, what kind of representation would that be? If the people were to ask me to serve, and I could do so and still provide for my family, I would do it. Yeah, I think this is going up as my status.
