Something I find greatly amusing: I am, most likely, THE most free enterprise/capitalist guy you will meet, unless you meet an entrepreneur or something. Ive made all of my money, every penny of it, from my free lance harp playing. Ive never ever worked for any kind of institution. Ive never ever received any government benefit. Ive never worked for a corporation that has received tax breaks, concessions, direct payments, etc. from any level of government. Ive made my money, literally, with my own, bare, hands, all on my own. I did work, very briefly, for the Milwaukee public schools, but that never amounted to more than 15 percent of my income over 3 years. Thats it. All of my investment decisions Ive made on my own, using my own money, making my own decisions, in the VERY capitalist stock market of the US. I have less than one percent of my retirement money in a pension, but other than that, its all me. I HATE capitalism. It doesnt work, even for those who use it. Its fraught with uncertainty. It never delivers what it promises. Its manipulated, its distorted. There are no free markets, even for free lance harpists. People dont make informed decisions when buying anything. The money you make more often than not comes from privilege and connections, far more than anything else. And dont get me started on trying to out pace inflation on returns from ventures or investments in general. And yet, so many people I know, who DO receive government benefits, or work for institutions that get most, or even ALL, of their money and stability from government largess, LOVE capitalism and wax poetical about it, or become one of its apologists and write books about it. Irony.
