Something I miss in this article is mention of the intensity of the process that Austrian Society has gone through, and is going through-- an exemplary process of confronting the crimes of the past. This process has been very painful and needed a courageous confrontation with reality, which could be a lesson for many other societies. It has meant putting persons who have been considered heros-- every society needs heros-- in quite another context, and putting values in question that were considered fundamental to society. The results are more than exhibited atrocities to be shown to school children, as the article seems to imply.
