Something kind of amazing happened to me yesterday. I was getting my oil changed at one of those places where you just drive in and dont even have to get out of the vehicle if you dont want to. Since I didnt have 4 kids with me like I usually do, I decided I would get out this time and sit in the waiting room. There was one other person also sitting in there, an older lady maybe in her 60s. The waiting room was dead quite, no tv, no radio, just awkward silence. So, I got out my phone and start to scroll through Facebook like I usually do in situations like this. I look over and the lady had her purse in her lap, tapping it with her fingers and looking around the empty room. I then remembered something I read about how smart phones have caused us to have almost no human interaction anymore. So I decided to put my phone away. If you know me, you know that I am pretty shy when meeting new people and definitely not a conversation starter type of person. So I sat there for a good 3 minutes (which felt like forever) trying to think of something to say. Finally, I said, do you always get your oiled changed here? It was like I had opened the flood gates! She seemed so happy to be telling me her stories. I now know half this ladys life story. She was so sweet and funny. We had a nice long conversation. As she was leaving, she turned around, paused, smiled and said it was very nice visiting with you today. And for some reason, that just made me so happy. For the rest of the day, I was in the best mood! I think I smiled and said hi to every stranger I came in contact with. I just wanted to share this with you guys and maybe sometime the same thing can happen to you and I hope it makes your day better like it did mine! Oh, and put your phones away every now and then and have some actual human interaction and a conversation with someone youve never met!
