Something to keep in mind for the upcoming Yap State gubernatorial - TopicsExpress

Something to keep in mind for the upcoming Yap State gubernatorial election? A standing problem, inherent in all democratic systems, is something known as “Condorcet’s paradox” — with more than two candidates to be elected for a post, the system of electing individuals using direct popular voting is rife with problems. Consider — as one example out of many possible — the case of a three-way race between two “anti-ETG” candidates and one “pro-ETG” candidate. This opens the possibility that — after counting the ballots — the two “anti-ETG” candidates each got 30 % of the votes, and the “pro-ETG” candidate got 40 %... This makes “pro-ETG” the winner, even though the result CLEARLY shows that the majority of the voters (60 %) were “anti-ETG”! Details: https://economicsnetwork.ac.uk/iree/v4n2/stodder.htm The key for voters — as always — is to be informed. Not only about the issues, but also to be on the lookout for “agenda manipulators” (a paradox-aware candidate, or his/her followers, could campaign with the explicit strategy to split the majority!).
