Sometimes I get asked why I edit all the images from an event job individually. Surely, comes the scornful cry, if youre any good you get it all right first time, in camera? Yeah - right. It doesnt work quite like that. Event work is fast, spontaneous, chancy. Thats why I love it so much. So this is why: turning from the sponsor board with a wide lens on, I see on the far side of the room something nice and funny happening. I dont hesitate: I grab it. Heres the image out of camera - and also the edit. From nothing, a usable image that will delight that table. In all honesty, the thing I see in all the event photographers I want to work with is a relentless desire to always get a bit more, to find everything, never to be satisfied.
