Sometimes I really wish they were as fearsome as people make them out to be. I would really like to see more awareness programs being run for these critters, like the bee are pollinators, flying foxes are essential for long range pollination and biodiversity in our native eucalypt tree species, they carry TWO diseases that are life threatening to humans, TWO count them, 1 2. One of those is not bat to human transmissible, so there is ONE yes ONE (1) disease Australian Bat Lyssavirus (ABL) that can be passed from bat to human. So next time someone rants about them being disease carrying pests you now know they are ignorant and speaking through their arse. Bats do not fly and poo at the same time, so if bat shit is getting in your water tanks or on your washing, trim to trees above your roof or clothesline, also good bushfire prevention strategies too by the way.
