Sometimes IQ tests don’t work out quite as planned. ;-) At the age of 7 or 8, I was volunteered by my class-teacher as guinea pig to one of the older girls who studied at Holy Cross College, next door to our school. I had no idea what I was getting into. After we arrived at the college, the girl showed me a pile of small boxes, and opened one, offering me the sweet that the box contained. Then she gestured towards the pile of boxes, indicating that I should open one. I did, and she told me that I could keep the sweet that was inside the box. I thanked her, and waited for further instructions. She, meanwhile, couldn’t understand why I wasn’t opening all the other boxes, to check if there was a sweet inside. When one of the other girls came in, my host told her something to the effect that I wasn’t particularly bright. She may have had a point – but then, neither was she. After all, she had completely failed to understand that the *reason* that I wasn’t grabbing the other boxes was a fairly straightforward one: it would have been VERY bad manners! :-D
