Sometimes a parent must say no to a childs request. Although the youngster will naturally feel disappointed, she must learn to remain respectful nonetheless. Screaming THATS NOT FAIR! or YOURE SO MEAN! is not an acceptable way to respond. Its important that the parent recognizes the disrespect in such remarks instead of just assuming that rudeness is a normal, to-be-expected part of family communication. Teach your child how to handle disappointment with dignity, self-respect and respect for others and youll give your child an extraordinary advantage in building healthy relationships throughout her lifetime.
