Sometimes “been there, done that” works for us in ways we - TopicsExpress

Sometimes “been there, done that” works for us in ways we didn’t imagine. As Country Homes Christian Church, as community, as congregation of God’s people, we have “been there, done that”, and we will gather on Sunday to worship our God, again. At the end of worship we will once again consecrate our estimates of giving for the coming year. We do it so the finance ministry can prepare a just budget for the coming year. We do it so we have an idea what mission and outreach programs will receive resources. We do it so our staff gets paid for the work they do. There are many other reasons to do it, but none of them take precedent over the one I haven’t mentioned yet: We do it as an act of worship! Offering, stewardship, giving, tithing or whatever else you might want to call it rests solely and completely on this point. God’s grateful people give as an act of worship, celebrating (symbolically) in response to God’s bounty and blessing in our own lives. It is an act of ministry and gratitude. As we approach this Sunday (and any Sunday really) let us remember who we belong to and ask ourselves how is God changing us? Let us ask what do we have in common and what do we hold in common. As we contemplate and pray about what it means to give and remember the lesson we heard so long ago about giving and receiving. As we ask ourselves what am I grateful for; how have I been blessed and how might I pass that blessing on to someone else? Give because you can, give because you may, give in celebration of the God who loves you! May God’s peace fill you always and all ways. Greg
