Sometimes if you take the time and pay attention you get to experience humanity at its best. That happened last night at, of all places, a Karaoke bar. This particular bar is frequented by a beautiful young lady with a severe case of Cerebral Palsy. She loves to sing although because of her handicap she is not able to carry the tune or pronounce the words so the Karaoke host sings the song and the young lady joins in as best she can. You can see the excitement in her eyes as she sings along with the Karaoke host. The entire bar is cheering her on all the time. It is quite a heart warming thing to witness. Last night though, something truly special happened. There is a regular at the bar named Chris. He is extremely well liked and as I am a newcomer to that venue I assumed it was because of his ability to sing which is actually quite, quite good. But this time Chris asked the host to play a love song. Then he approached the gal whos name I believe is Gwen and proceeded to put his head against hers and hold her in embrace and the two of them sang a beautiful love song together. She was so, very excited. As I looked around the bar I could see that no one was getting served because the entire staff was watching what was happening. No one cared either. There was not a dry eye in the house as this young lady was treated to a very exciting moment by a fellow who knows what love and compassion is. It was a truly magical moment. If you keep your eyes and ears open and your heart open to the idea, every once in a while you get to witness humanity at its best. That is what happened last night and it happened in of all places, a quite small little Karaoke bar in north east Calgary.
