Sometimes in life you have to take a stand. One issue I hope you choose to act on with me is the avoidable deaths from those who text and drive. Today the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will join with hundreds of other organizations in the first "Drive 4 Pledges" national day of action for AT&T’s It Can Wait campaign. I have taken the pledge and made a personal commitment not to text and drive. On Sept. 19, I hope you too will consider pledging to never text and drive, and to share this information with your family, friends and colleagues. Putting an end to texting and driving begins with the conscious choice by the person behind the wheel. Those who text and drive are 23 times more likely to get into a crash. Together, we can all have a part in making sure that no more lives are lost. No message is so urgent that it is worth diverting attention from the road and risking lives in the process.
