Sometimes it takes some time to remember where you were headed in - TopicsExpress

Sometimes it takes some time to remember where you were headed in the first place and the people you intended to go there with. Theres no hard feelings, just the future. The above quote could not describe my life or my coaching career any better at this moment. As of today I am back coaching Ridley High School Swimming and Diving as the Head Boys and Assistant Girls coach. For those of you who do not know me my name is Kevin Pierce. I have spent the last two years as an Assistant coach at Cabrini College in Radnor. During my two years away from Ridley I have learned a ton of swimming knowledge that I look forward to bringing back to you guys in hopes of making you a better swimmer. My last two years at Cabrini I was able to learn from a great head coach that opened my eyes to many training styles that I have come to embrace. Though not much of what you are used to will change there will be some changes that I fully expect to make that will in the end make you a better swimmer. Leaving this program to coach in college was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. Coming back to fill Mr. Slenn’s shoes was one of the easiest. Though Mr. Slenn can never truly be replaced I look forward to being a mentor to each and everyone one of you just as he was to me and so many countless others. Mr. Slenn will not disappear. He will still be involved in the program and we are lucky that he has decided to stay on in any capacity. For those of you that have swam for me in the past you know my expectations and coaching philosophy. For those of you who haven’t I will share them with you. I want each and every swimmer I coach to give 100% effort 100% of the time. If you are able to do that then not only will you become a better swimmer you also will become a better person. The total swimming experience is made up of people, attitudes, beliefs, work habits, fitness, health, winning and losing, and so much more. Swimming is a cross section of lifetime experiences. It can provide so many learning situations. A swimmer learns to deal with pressure and stress, sometimes self-imposed, sometimes applied by others. One learns to deal with success and failure. One learns teamwork and discipline. These traits can and will carry you far in life. I look forward to working with each and every one of you and can’t wait to get started!
