Sometimes its nice to go back to where it all began. Over twenty years ago at Gaslight Music in Melbourne, I bought the debut Alan Parsons Project album on CD, `Tales of Mystery and Imagination: Edgar Allen Poe, long before I even knew what the term `progressive rock was. Coming back to it again last night for the first time in over 15 years, I cant explain what an exquisite work it still remains, a beautiful mix of classical, cinematic and daring rockers, incredible vocal harmonies and dreamy instrumental passages. Damned if `The Raven is not an absolute classic to my ears too. The `Project would go on to record many more nice albums, but that first one is in a class all its own.
