Song For The Day - January 26, 2015 In the last half of the 60s the happening music scene was mostly on the west coast, but at the same time, there was also a growing musical presence being cultivated in the Boston area with a lot of help from local DJs. One in particular, a gentleman by the name of Dick Summer, coined the phrase The Bosstown Sound (or Boston Sound depending on your hearing....). Dick had a late night, underground show where every night of the week you could tune in to hear the newest psychedelic sounds. Im not sure after all this time how I heard of, or found him, on the dial, but once I did, I was there every night. Sleeping in the evening after supper so I could get back up after the folks went to bed and listen to what he was playing until it was time to get ready for school. Im not sure, looking back, how the folks could not have realized what was going on, but they never gave me any grief for my weird hours. My dad was also a night owl his whole life so I suspect he understood the affliction. Anyhow, sitting at my desk, late at night, looking out the window at the eastern sky full of stars, listening to Dick Summer on my AM radio, was an important part of daily life. I heard many bands on his show, that until the net came along, it was impossible to get any info on. I bought darn near everything he played including Ultimate Spinach, The Beacon Street Union, Orpheus and one of my all-time favorites from the Bosstown Sound era, Edens Children. However today were going to play a tune, by a band named Earth Opera, that put out 2 albums before disbanding. This song being on the second album. This band started the careers of two players you may have heard of since this album came out......Peter Rowan and David Grisman. They both went on after Earth Opera to have successful careers that are still going on today. I use to love listening to this song late at night in the wintertime, it just produced a peaceful vibe and the sax solo in there was always an inspiration. So on a very cold, winter night, it just sounds right to share this one today. youtu.be/IvMd3Pf3afo
