Songs that tell my story, part 4. In 2004 I was busy blathering on to anyone I could corner at a party or a bar that in my day, music was better, it meant something. You wont hear anything on the radio that is half as good as what I listened to when I was your age. Your music sucks. And I think I really, honestly believed it. I had become the stereotype, the annoying approaching-middle-aged cant let go of the past nostalgia loving asshat. And then The Killers released Hot Fuzz and it was a bucket of cold water to the face and a punch to the sack and it had one foot in the past, wearing its influences on its sleeve, while the other foot was busy kicking down a wall to the future. And ever since I have argued that some of the best music released in my lifetime has been in the 21st century. I dont know if its technology or the collapse of the Record Business, but damn, this century has produced some amazing music thus far. And so part 4 has to be The Killers for snapping me out of the past and holding my hand while I took my first steps towards a future that sometimes scares me and most times excites me. youtu.be/sZTpLvsYYHw
