Songs4Soldiers is in the process of helping our latest veteran! Rose and her family will be at our Annual Benefit Concert this Saturday – make sure you’re there too! Rose was 28 whe she joined the US Navy in 2001, and was going through Basic Training on September 11. After Boot Camp, Rose was stationed at US Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune where she worked in the Emergency Room caring for soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan that were injured in the line of duty. During her time at Camp Lejeune she was one of the first to be deployed to guantanomo bay to to address medical needs of the detainees from Operation Enduring Freedom. Rose was later stationed at US Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy where her group was in charge of the Ambulance Service and the Emergency Room. Rose met her husband Eric in Sigonella, who was also in the Navy at that time. Rose is now 41, and she and Eric have a 3 year old son named Jacob. Last year Rose was diagnosed with a very rare and potentially fatal form of cancer called Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma (Bile Duct Cancer). Rose is Stage 4c and was told that she has less than one year to live. Nevertheless, 3% of those diagnosed with this cancer live 10 years or more, and Rose intends to be in that 3%. Rose’s husband started a benefit fund on gofundme, and a friend of Rose’s posted the benefit on her Facebook page. A member of Songs4Soldiers saw this on Facebook and reached out to Rose to see what they could do to help her and her family. Both Eric and Rose work full-time, and many of Rose’s days are filled with chemotherapy treatments, blood draws, and CT scans. Answering the question of help was very difficult for her. Rose doesnt want to leave her husband with unpaid bills if she dies, but she would love to spend some quality time with her family in the near future. Songs4Soldiers is making a dream come true for Rose by sending her and her family on a Disney Cruise so they can spend that quality time and make precious memories together. We are also working on something special for her son, but thats a secret, so please stay tuned for updates.
