Songwriter Robert Lopez, who along with his wife Kristin Anderson-Lopez won the Oscar for best original song for Let It Go from the Disney hit animated film Frozen, broke the record for the fastest winner of an EGOT. Lopez joins an elite group of 12, including John Gielgud and Mel Brooks, who have won the grand slam of entertainment industry awards – Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony, known as an EGOT, but he has achieved the feat in only 10 years. The 39-year-old, who has won Tony Awards (for Avenue Q in 2004 and The Book of Mormon in 2011), a Grammy (for The Book of Mormon cast album) and two Daytime Emmy Awards (for Wonder Pets in 2008 and 2010) is the first Filipino-American to win an Academy Award and paid tribute to his ancestral homeland after the win, saying: Filipino pride. Im so excited. Im just sending love to the Philippines. Referring to Novembers devastating Typhoon Haiyan, which left thousands dead, he told AFP: I know theyve had a tough year and I just send out my feelings to them.
