Sonya InStyle Allen 10 mins · Three police personnel from the Barnett Street Police Station in St James have been interdicted and another three suspended with immediate effect in connection with the case surrounding the beating death of 31-year-old Mario Deane. The interdicted cops will only get three-quarters of their pay. The police High Command says the actions were taken against the six following a probe by the Inspectorate of Constabulary. According to the high command, two police corporals and a constable have been interdicted while three district constables have been suspended. The cops who were on duty when Mario Deane was allegedly beaten by inmates in his cell on Sunday, August 3 are to remain off the job pending further investigations into the matter. Meanwhile, Acting Commissioner of Police, Glenmore Hinds is urging for patience while the investigations continue. We are assuring the citizenry that the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force) recognises the duty of care and we will be unrelenting in this regard, especially as it relates to persons in our custody, said Hinds. The two men, 25-year-old Adrian Morgan and 35-year-old Marvin Orr who have been charged with the murder of Deane, will appear before the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, August 13. #thegleaner
