Sooo many of you know I am on the search for a new puppy. I have been thinking I would like to have a dog that can go show. Today I went to the Rose City Dog Show. Big show! I was so excited to see the Aussies and had big plans to talk to breeders on the side lines, hear peoples explanations on dogs, talk about pedigrees. Going to the dog show was a special trip for me. And sad, people were nothing like expected they were unhelpful didnt want to talk to me, some were nasty and didnt even want to answer the simpliest questions about how to read the dog program. It wasnt like I was trying to talk to handlers getting ready to show, come on Im a trainer I know thats not a good time to talk. But the people in the stands sitting in chairs that are obviously knowledgable about the breed, here I am all excited to be there and if I didnt already love the Aussie breed I wouldnt want to be there ever again. It made me determined to always be helpful and open at our Arab Shows. Because its the person that is there watching, wanting to learn asking you questions, could be your next client, buy their first horse from you, buy their first show puppy from you, be your next friend. I dont ever want someone at a Arab Show to feel the way I did at a Aussie Show. I know this post is probably going to make it impossible for me to buy a puppy, word gets around fast. There have been some wonderful people I have talked to Rhonda Rainwater Silveira, has given me hours of her time and knowledge, Heather Braddock, AJ Tavares, Betsy Jones Sokolowski Tanya M. Nowak and Pat Zapf have been great to learn from. But the whole experience of the dog show made me sad and want to rethink what I want to do. Aussie folks you did not make me feel welcome.
