Soooo I get a call this morning... Caller: Hi Mrs Ware you have a balance on your account from your medical procedure in October. We are calling to set up payment. Do you know when you will be able to pay the balance? Me: do you know when you will be able to tell the true cost of a procedure and not tell me one price when I come in on the day of the procedure, which I paid, and then Send me a bill later for a balance not covered by my insurance. You had two weeks to contact my insurance company prior to the procedure to find out how much they would cover so that I would have correct information at the time of my procedure. Caller: silence pause Ummmmmm Me: I will send in $5 a month. Is that good? Caller: but the balance is only $35 Me: my balance was zero when I checked in for my procedure. If you cant tell me what I owe at the time of the procedure dont tell me how much to pay now. Caller: if you cant afford to pay we can.... Me: $35 is not the problem. The problem is how your hospital is not being honest. Caller: OK when will you send the $5. Me: well the way my savings and my checking account are set up..... Caller: thanks. And then she hangs up. I know that was bad ... she was only doing her job. But this has happened several times. We as consumers have the right to know the true cost of a medical procedure and not pay one price at the time and the get another bill months later.
