Sooooo, I went to US Cellular yesterday, AT&T and Verizon today. All of the people I talked to were nice, helpful and knew what they were talking about. I just about pulled the trigger at US Cellular, but thought Id better do my due dillagence. I stopped by AT&T where I have been a customer for 9 years and bought my last 2 iPhones. I will have had my current iPhone 4 (3G) for 4 years in September. The reality is that AT&T doesnt work at the Compound, and they arent making any plans to change that soon. It also works poorly at the opera house. But I wanted to see what deal they would offer. The deal was $199 for a new Samsung 5S...the same as US Cellular. So much for valuing customer loalty. I headed to Verizon where I found a nice young geek who forgot more than Ill ever know about all this stuff. Same Samsung Galaxy 5S is $150 minus a $50 rebate. Plus, there is a monthly rate discount if we use Sondras company name (even though they have nothing to do with paying the bill). Havent determined the savings yet because I cant activate the phone until I get it Thursday. Their service DOES work at the Compound. And the Samsung phone has a built-in hot spot for no extra charge. Besides it having a better size screen and keyboard, it has dual windows. And I can pull out the memory card and download it to my computer, and increase the storage from 16GB to 128GB. And I can directly download anything (music, apps, etc) without having to sync up to the computer. Oh, and the Samsung is waterproof. The costs are all about the same: $90 a month for 2GB data and unlimited everything else. So I will use the old iPhone for a wireless music machine. Im looking forward to better service and a better phone. Ill let you know what happens!
