Sooooooooooo........ A friend of mine, her daughter joined Steiner in May 2014..... After me promoting it to her !! Shes a confident young thing (age 19) she couldnt wait to go, shes a fairly free spirit anyway, I thought she would be absolutely fine! She returned last week, breaking her contract....... Saw her yesterday for a catch up....she loved ship life, work colleagues, hours didnt bother her, was enjoying seeing the sights etc etc.....even had time for the obligated ship romance...... So why did she return? Homesickness!!!! Now I know we are all different, but in this day and age, with mobile phones, Skype, cheap call rates etc - I felt she had it easy compared to us 90s and before shippies!! I didnt want to go down the in my day route as it wouldnt help and obviously times move forward..... But it certainly made me think about the homesickness spells of mine ...... No way of contacting home on a 10 day sea crossing, waiting in anticipation in San Juan every 2 weeks for a letter etc.....and if it contained an updated photo it went straight on your wall....
