Sophia was none to pleased about getting an 84 in Art. Art!!!! That kid has more art in her spirit than anyone I know...besides her brother of course. Something was UP. I told her to grab her sketchbook and folders, iPad and tests before we entered the classroom. I brought some heavy ammo with us: the older brother, himself a published artist. Teacher: Hi! Im Ms. Such and Such. Your daughter got So and So. Shes lovely in class Derrick: great. tell us how you calculated her grade please and thank you Sophia: Im confused. I hand in all my work on time. Here is my sketchbook Derrick: She draws beautifully. Do tell I sat in silence at what appeared to be a takeover of the Parent Teacher Conference by a brother who was not willing to sample the Bullshit Du Jour from the young Art teacher. I allowed the teacher to explain all the grades. When I questioned one grade in particular she went off on a tangent about the technology being troublesome and that the students would not have to use the school issued iPads going forward since the technology was inadequate. I then insisted that my daughter not be given a lower grade when the technology was insufficient. Sophia then spoke up. I have my iPad. I submit that project on time. Let me show you Apparently my daughter received a 0 for a blog project that was due on 10/19/2014...that Sophie submit online ON TIME on 9/26/2014. The art teacher, realizing the trifecta of no BS sitting in front of her would not tolerate shoddy grading, shook her head. I stand corrected.
