Sophie Perinot and Judith Starkston both tagged me to reveal five things about myself that people might not know. Here goes: 1. My favorite movie at age 10 wasnt anything by Disney; it was Last of the Mohicans, scalpings and all. I had my first hormonal tinglings for Daniel Day-Lewis in buckskin. 2. The first short story I ever wrote, age seven, was all about the assassination of Edward II by Isabella the She Wolf of France, and her lover Roger Mortimer. (I got inspired by my Kings and Queens of England paper dolls book.) 3. I sleep-talk in French. 4. I have perfect ballet feet: strong, high-arched, long second toe to support pointe shoes. Absolutely nothing else about my physique is suitable for ballet, but I could walk around en pointe all day. 5. In my life as a music major, I have sung so many Requiems (Brahms, Verdi, Mozart, Poulenc, Britten) that I have the entire Death Mass memorized. Dies irae, dies illa, solvet saeclum in favilla . . .
