Sorry, I accidentally deleted my previous post, so here goes again...with Halloween right around the corner, any special memories of Texas Halloweens of the past? Living in the country since I was about 5 yrs old, I never got to go trick or treating. Since I attended a parochial school, All Hallows Eve, as it was known, was the day before we would commemorate our deceased relatives at the catholic cemetery. I remember my grandma making beautiful roses out of crepe paper & dipping them in wax, or paraffin. She made bouquets to place on the graves. On All Souls Day eve, Nov. 1st, a memorial service would be held at the cemetery. Candles would be placed on the graves & lit. To a youngster who didnt quite understand what it was all about, it was an eerie sight to see the glowing graves as the evening turned to dark.
