Sorry... I know I promised this to many people yesterday but we had an eventful day. Ciera did have another surgery on Friday to remove dead (fungus) from her nasal cavity as well as cartilage. The cartilage they removed had fungus on it previously and to keep it from spreading all cartilage had to be removed. The doctor told her he was removing this prior to surgery and that it would cause her nose to dip so this brought tears (many). She will have reconstruction surgery in about a year. This was just the tip of the iceberg... he informed us the fungus was just mm away from her eye and her brain! We do not want it there!! Removing all dead tissue and the cartilage would help keep it from spreading. He brought us pictures and he said the million dollar picture was the last one, red blood! :) Ciera will have an MRI tomorrow and go back to surgery on Tuesday to make sure nothing is in the nasal cavity. I would love to say she is now safe or in the clear of this infection but we are far from it!! We need her white counts to recover to fight this infection! Pray for white cells!! Please!! Her ANC is still zero and that is what has caused both the bacterial (Ecoli) infection as well as the fungal infection. She needs those fighter cells. After her surgery I noticed she had broke out in a rash all over body. They thought it was due to bath wipes we had used prior to surgery...not so much. Now they believe it is a topical something. So they have started a new antibiotic and we are not sure what caused it. On top of this her right arm broke out in one spot with a bright red rash...not like the other but something new. This is thought to be cellulitis. Infectious control doc came in today and said when cells do come in and start fighting she may get worse and inflamed before getting better. She was given the option to go out of the hospital but for her safety we are staying inpatient. Then there is the fluid issue...since being admitted Sunday, Oct. 19 she has gained 22 lbs. Her body is so swollen she looks like her skin could split open!! They have given her IV Lasix and albumin. They are trying not to give this too much to help protect her kidneys from the strong fungal antibiotics. The hair is gone! :( She has been loosing handfuls and her pillow was staying covered so she asked her dad to go buy a kit yesterday and he buzzed her hair off. She felt so much better. Ciera does not like it falling out she would rather cut it off!! When people leave it with stringy pieces it drives her crazy and it makes you look even more sick! Go Bald and Beautiful :) So this just a little of what is happening in my world...how is yours? I am hoping happy and healthy! :) Enjoyed my visit with Austin and Mike. Spent quality time with both in the past two days and I am very thankful. Love sitting and having a conversation with my teenage son about life and friends. It warmed my heart
