Sorry about this "round robin" to you all, we are both rather tired..... "On Saturday Simon and I went to Westgate Mall, Nairobi and got caught in the horrific terrorist incident. Both Sebastian and Phoebe were both at school in South Africa so were not subjected to this horror. To cut a long and stressful story short, Simon was shot while we were hiding under a car on the roof of the Mall by one of the terrorists. Due to the help of friends and other incredible Kenyans, we were rescued by an ambulance and got Simon to hospital where he has been given fantastic treatment. He is not in danger, cracking the most terrible jokes and, although we are both very tired and shaken, we are grateful to God that we escaped relatively unharmed. Be it Christians, Sikhs, Muslims, Hindus- Kenyans of all backgrounds have come together as a force of unity to overcome this hate-filled crime- and added to this is the unprecedented level of support being accorded to Kenya by the World at large. Judging by this incredible response I believe we can safely say that Terrorism is now truly considered to be played out on an International stage- and that an attack anywhere in the World is now seen as an attack on the World itself and not on an individual country. We know that many of you have been touched in various ways by senseless and barbaric acts of Terrorism in your own countries- but the bottom line remains that as the ‘community of the World’ we may be shaken (and even stirred!) but by no means broken- and that as long as we stand together, the appalling actions of a few individuals will not define who we are as a Society. Kenya is, and stays, the most incredible country to be a part of and we are so proud to be Kenyan. Please spread this positive word as there are so many negative reports out there. Thanks for all your very kind wishes. With our love to you all Amanda, Simon, Seb and Phoebe"
