Sorry for the SMPA this AM. Welcome to the world Social Media Tools I know one very large American SW company who uses “eating your own dog food” as part of their QA process, although it is difficult to adequately test a product when you are an employee of that company and already know how it is supposed to work. Better than throwing it over the fence and saying “ship it” I guess. In contrast, I know one very large Japanese games company who does part of their new-Title QA with a pool of 256 non-employee interns who, I believe, are qualified (to the greatest extent possible) by never having used any of that company’s products before (or when it is a series, by having no experience with prior Titles in the series). The number 256 is significant because the interns are seated in a large room with an array of 16 x 16 chest high cubicles (I have been there, having worked for this company at one point). When a bug occurs during game play the intern stops immediately and raises their hand so a page can run over to a location addressed with two integer bytes, the state of play can be snapshotted and uploaded from that address, and then game play can continue in very short order. Now *that* is software, UI, and human factors QA!
