Sorry for the upcoming longish post. I just simply cant believe what happened to me tonight. I got off work at 10:30. As per usual, I stood in the parking lot and chatted with a couple of the other closers. Matthew, Leslie, and I stood and talked for about 20 minutes and then left. While driving down Mason-Montgomery Road, I heard a thud on my bumper. Nothing too loud, and my car was still driving normally. Huh. Must have been a piece of trash or something. No matter. I stopped and got gas and proceeded to drive home. I pulled in my driveway, shut off the car, and Im gathering my things to go inside. Got my phone, got my water, got my...where the hell is my...why cant I find my iPad? Should be right here...OH MY GOD THE THUD. I SET IT ON TOP OF MY ROOF WHILE TALKING IN THE PARKING LOT. I live in Mt. Healthy. I work in Mason. On a good day, thats 25 minutes. I couldnt drive fast enough...I literally bought this thing last month, and now its undoubtably smashed in the middle of one of Masons main roads. Dammit dammit dammit. I call Pinky...no answer. I call Callie...no answer. I call Eric...no answer. GOOD GOD SOMEONE PICK UP YOUR PHONE. Facebook notification...Callie Wright likes your comment. But cant answer a phone. Finally she calls me. I wanted someone to log into iCloud and see if they could locate it. She does, but its offline. Of course it is. It doesnt have a data plan. I drive all the way to work and dont see it in the road. I turn around in my work parking lot, turn on the hazards, and drive about 5mph, scanning the road. And of course a cop wants to pull up behind me and ask whats going on. He ended up being cool, and even offered me an encouraging story about losing his phone on a busy road and it ended up being fine. Great for you, Officer Rub-It-In, but Im quite certain mines smashed. You dont know me, but thats my luck. He wishes me well, and I drive off. Slowly. Every dark spot, every metal reflector, and every shadow requires further scrutinization. Finally I drive up and see a square tar spot in the lane right beside me. There it is...face down and case open...glass screen against the pavement. I open it up, and its COMPLETELY UNSCATHED. Battery is even still at 100%. I dont think I need to say what Im grateful for tonight.
