Soul Care and Parenting a Child with Special Needs Saturday, October 18, 2014 9:30 am - 2:00 pm Northland Distributed Church Session One: Why Your Child is Part of God’s Story Session Two: How to Reclaim the Joy Join Dr. Sharon Spano for two heartfelt sessions that will help you explore how your relationship with God is impacting your ability to parent your child with special needs. As a certified speaking professional, author, and business consultant, Sharon’s most recent work focuses on helping people maximize their potential for meaningful, abundant, and productive lives. In her most important role as “Michael’s mom,” Sharon has also served as an advocate for persons with disabilities for over thirty years. She has co-authored cutting-edge curriculum to include Developmental Screening and Family-Centered Care: A Self-Instructional Model for Health Care Providers and Families, Physicians and Children with Special Needs. She is also the author of Isabel’s God, an autobiographical journey of rearing a child with a rare metabolic disorder. Isabel’s God has been hailed as a must read for any one who lives, works, or loves in the world of disability. Since her son Michael’s death in 2008, Sharon has continued her fight to improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities. In keeping with Michael’s quest for independence and choice, she and her husband Ralph have recently formed The Michael Spano Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to help those with disAbilities realize options for independence, choice, and a meaningful life in the community. Please join Dr. Spano as we explore what it means to experience the fullness of God in the midst of our daily challenges as parents. “Every human being is perfectly designed for a specific purpose,” Sharon writes. “God doesn’t make mistakes. Our responsibility as parents and advocates is to create communities that fully embrace God’s handiwork through people with disabilities —for it is through their resilient spirit that we come to more fully realize our own humanity. It is through their eyes that we mirror our own capacity for courage, strength, and the richness of unconditional love.” Register today at: Eventbrite Registration For more information contact Heather Subbert at [email protected] or by phone at 407-937-1828.
