Soul Chat Hospice work is about people and every person has lived a story. It seems that often life impacting lessons seem to come one at a time. Think about the people who have been in your path that have taught you about life by the way they lived their lives. Remember to thank them if the opportunity exists. I remember one senior woman who was already in a skilled nursing facility when I first met her. She had a smile that was consistent and penetrating. She was such a bright person and loved to bless others even though she had so little breath in her lungs she could barely verbalize words. She had her tablet and pen ready when it was necessary. She described coming to the facility and how she had a mission to be an encouragement to those around her. Now that she was bed bound she said, “I can no longer go to others, so now they will need to come to me.” And come they did. I thought her giving focus in life was such a model of her faith and then I learned something else about her story. This woman had a very difficult life in a long term relationship with a negative and unkind person. I was amazed. How did she survive with such a sweet and giving attitude after such difficulty? Why wasn’t she now a bitter and self-centered person? She is truly an expression of the power of God to carry us through life with a joy that is greater than our present circumstances. Her story is a strong motivation to hold on to God and respond to His direction for life.
