Soup Kitchen Update 12 November 2014 Date: Wed, Nov 12, 2014 7:56 pm Blankets, Blankets, Blankets, Cold Start of the Season.... Homeless man sleeping in a van needed three blankets tonight.. When I asked why he hasnt checked into Mens Shelter he knew nothing about it...... Hopefully he can get in tomorrow. So many came out in the cold tonight over 203, some with small infants just to get a hot meal. They just kept coming and coming. Some fighting and cutting in line outside the Kitchen but once inside they all had sufficient seating. The Springfield Soup Kitchen was ready with 22 mighty volunteers. All were served nice hot pork vegetable soup with grilled cheese sandwiches and club crackers. All the thick meaty vegetable soup you wanted and many had seconds and thirds and all gave thanks for the food . God sends the best volunteers and I cannot praise them enough so I thank Jesus. Many announcements tonight on jobs and other resources but the highlight was the free flu shots to be available for the homeless and poor next Wednesday at the Springfield Soup Kitchen. So many coming up and asking for information on OND job referral and I was very happy to give them direction. One woman was having mini strokes tonight and fell coming into the Kitchen, another with calcium deficiency lost a tooth and was in tears, many walking all the way from Sherman Avenue for a hot meal at the Kitchen. Of course there were drug deals going down under the tables at the Kitchen but that goes with the territory. All week one struggles with all the work to keep the Kitchen going wondering how long can this continue but once time to serve arrives all doubts and pain in preparation dissolves and your tear glands swell for the little help you provided to those in need. Thank You Lord for persistence and stamina and health to continue doing Your Will. Thank You Lord for giving these gifts to so many of our volunteers.
