South Ealing vs West Reading Reserves 8:3 Philmar Cup Today South Ealing welcomed West Reading Reserves down to west London for a gripping cup match. After a bit of difficulty finding a pitch to play the game, we finally managed to get a pitch at the notorious Boston Manor fields where South Ealing are familiar with the surroundings. With a huge crowd in attendance the match got under way. The first half was a half with one side dominating, that team was South Ealing with the home team playing some splendid football which the away side struggled to cope with. The first goal came from some quick thinking from Charlie Robinson who drilled a corner to the front post for Jason Sheehan to flick into the top corner. The second didn’t take much time in coming along with Wayne Thomas making a darting run into the box which resulted in him being brought down by the huge shoulder of the defender. As Wayne Thomas was busy rolling around on the floor Charlie Robinson took the ball and demanded he should take the penalty kick. Up stepped the centre forward who has been in magnificent goal scoring form and the penalty proved it as Charlie Robinson sent the keeper the wrong way. The third was again scored by Charlie Robinson when Wayne Thomas put a sublime through ball to Charlie on the right hand side and the forward slotted it through the legs of the oncoming keeper. Jason Sheehan scored the fourth goal for South Ealing in this dominant display in the first half when he curled a lovely shot into the bottom corner most people would be proud of scoring such a goal on Fifa with a tap of the r2 button. Great display by the home side who went into the break with a four goal cushion some say this would be a nice cushion but then again this is South Ealing who never like to do things easy The second half started in a way in which none of the supporters expected on the side lines as Ryan Wimms gave away a penalty which the opposition slotted into the corner even after Jacobs impression of Bruce Grobbelaar with the wavy arms and slick footwork. Again Ryan Wimms gave away another penalty kick even when the striker was literally running himself of the pitch, but Ryan Wimms decided to bring him down just in case he got past. Again the penalty was tucked into the corner. That made it 4:2 and the away side weren’t done when the ball fell nicely to the midfielder who has already scored 2 goals took a touch and riffled a volley into the top corner from 25 yards great strike and that completed his hat trick. After a well-deserved telling off from their star defensive midfielder Ryan Barrett South Ealing pulled their finger out and up stepped Greg Stanworth when he latched onto a ball which was bobbling along the penalty area after Jason drilled it in and SMASH!! Greg pelted a ball with some venom into the bottom corner. It appeared the player learnt from the sitter he missed last week! Like the London busses the goals kept coming when the star striker stepped up again when called for, when he was caught up in a bundle in the area after again Jason going on when of his mazey runs down the wing which resulted in him smashing the ball across the goal for the defender to smash the ball off Charlie’s butt cheek into the top corner this lad literally scores with any body part. That completed the striker’s Hat trick but he wasn’t done there when he again was played through by Wayne Thomas and took the ball around the keeper like he wasn’t even there! And then has the audacity to lose control of the ball and nearly take it off the pitch only to cheekily regain his composure to slot the ball into the corner. Finally after many minutes of watching Jason Sheehan run around like a headless chicken to finish his hat trick he finally did it! And what a way to do it by grabbing the ball midway through the oppositions half and lashing a shoot which flew through the air like an arrow of Robin Hoods bow to ping into the top hand corner cue the over-elaborate celebration. This was by far the most entertaining of games and defiantly fitted a cup game. That makes it 2 games and 2 wins for the holders of the cup who are stream rolling their way through this competition. Man of the match was Jason Sheehan but many of the supporters were left bemused by the decision as the central midfielder Ryan Barrett had made a performance which wouldn’t have looked out of place at a 3:00 game at Loftus Road.
