South Norwood High Street, c 1935, decorated possibly for King George V and Queen Marys Silver Jubilee.. The High Street area was developed along with the South Norwood Park and Selhurst Park Estates in the 1860s and 1870s. On the corner of Station Road is the Alliance pub, dating from the mid C19th. It is believed the name commemorates the marriage Edward VII, the Prince of Wales, and Princess Alexandra of Denmark
