South Sudanese are waking up this morning to a new government. It’s been more than a week since the President dissolved cabinet, and relieved Vice President Riek Machar of his duties. In another decree issued last night, Salva Kiir appointed 17 ministers. Kiir has still not appointed a new Vice President. Among the new appointments: governor of Jonglei State Kuol Manyang Juuk is now the new Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs. Another newcomer to the central government -- Obuto Mamur Mete….takes up the role of the national security service in the office of the president. Former presidential advisor Telar Riiing Deng has been named Justice Minister. And Aggrey Tisa Sabuni is the new minister of finance commerce and economic planning. Stephen Dhieu Dau keeps his position in the expanded ministry of petroleum, mining and now also environment There are only two women in the new cabinet: Minister of Gender Awut Deng and Gemma Nunu Kumba, appointed to housing and planning.
