Southern California Weather Authority This quake could in fact affect other fault-lines. The reason we have not had a very large quake in many years is because there has been no chain reaction to set them off ... a 5.0 is enough to start a chain reaction on the other fault-zones of Southern California. While many may think it will relieve stress, that is not true. A quake on a fault can and has affected other faults. In 1992 the Landers Quake set off the Big Bear Earthquake four hours later. Other quakes can move nearby fault-zones ... So this is a reminder to always have your preparations in place with kits ... Should more quakes hit like the last 4.4 not too long ago and now this 5.0+ ... Had this been the San Andreas Fault Id feel better ... but it was the La Puente Fault ... connected to the Lake Elsinore Fault, same orientation as the San Jacinto Fault ... with the San Andreas Fault not far to the north. The Southern California area is shaking and probably not done yet... Could be tonight, tomorrow, or a week from now for anything to show up ...
