Southern Moon Southern moon is weeping above the long lost forgotten black bones I lay in an unmarked grave by the side of a dry deserted lake The tears of my mother never reached deep in the cave Where the white men lynched me and then hung up my mutilated burnt body off the topmost branch of an oak Deep South swamps and plantations where the forefathers of my parents died to bring wealth and happiness to white-folks Shore line of Carolina stretches sorrowfully with the sadness and sufferings of the negro slaves Black codes Jim Crow Sits-in in Jackson, Mississippi Alabama Georgia Louisiana, New Orleans Southern moon enslaved and entombed Enshrouded in the cocoon of centuries old slave-trades The Dutchman is sailing through the waters of ghostly remembrance The hull of the ship fell apart carrying the enchained souls of the Negro race Then comes in slow progression the reenactments of many a revolutions MLK Malcolm X Black beauty Black power Voodoo veil Roots of my root call me from the sand and shore of my Africa that first bore the origin of life and faith Southern moon Cry no more My master rapes me My mistress strips the flesh off my bones Upon the auction-platform they make us men, women, children stand Naked, dehumanized and debased They sell us as if we were animals No remorse No guilt No repentance The white men pass more laws to justify their satanic acts and god- forsaken-mistakes O the southern moon is still rising beyond the bayou where they drowned us in flame The children of my children, I hope one day, will find peace and happiness unto this land of freedom, prosperity and equal justice for all black men, women, children!
