Southern Railway Freight Station featured on annual Easter Seals ornament Miniature depictions of a historic train depot on downtown Augusta’s Reynolds Street will soon hang from Christmas trees across the city. The Southern Railway Freight Station, built in the early 1900s, is the featured landmark on the 2014 Ornament of Hope from the Easter Seals organization. Proceeds from sales of the ornament benefit the agency’s programs to help people with disabilities transition to jobs. The ornament design includes the red depot with a train surrounded by an evergreen and holly wreath. For the second year, the 24-carat gold-over-brass ornament has color. “With color and the Christmas wreath, it’s more festive. It’s a good representation of the building,” said Lynn Smith, the CEO and president of Easter Seals of East Georgia. Last year, the Fort Gordon Signal Towers was featured. Past ornament designs have spotlighted the Partridge Inn, Sacred Heart Cultural Center, Church of the Good Shepherd, The News Building, the Woodrow Wilson House and the Augusta Country Club. Ornaments cost $18 and can be purchased at the Easter Seals office, 1500 Wrightsboro Road, or by calling (706) 667-9695 to order the ornament for mail shipment.
