Soviet Starwoids: Before we can continue, we must first ask ourselves a question, What is a Soviet Starwoid? Good question and I will be happy to answer it for you. Soviet Starwoid: Any Star Wars Fan who wants Star Wars to be #1 in the space genre and goes ballistic whenever Star Wars is dethroned. Now you have the definition of what a Soviet Starwoid is we must ask ourselves yet again another question, Where does the therm Soviet Starwoid come from? Lets all go take some history from the late 1950s and the 1960s during what was called the Cold War between the USA and the CCCP. During that period, the two superpowers were in a Space Race to try to beat one another in various space firsts. The Soviets started the Space Race with the first artificial satellite called Sputnik 1 in October 1957. The Soviets beat the USA on April 12, 1961 in sending the first man into space on Vostok 1. The USA responded with the goal to land on the moon and return to Earth by the end of the 1960s as in John F Kennedys famous speech. On July 16-24, 1969, Apollo 11 beat the Soviets to the moon and Neil Armstrong was the first man to set foot on the moon. The CCCP refused to broadcast the Apollo 11 mission live because they were upset that they were no longer first in space. For more than thirty-two and a half years since May 25, 1977, Star Wars was in first place in the space genre until December 18, 2009 when James Cameron release the most successful movie so far, Avatar which grossed out to be more than two and a half billion dollars, more than twice as successful as the most successful Star Wars film before it was. Sadly Disney is seeking to dethrone Avatar with Star Wars Episode VII which I will proudly boycott, this might be a sign of poor sportsmanship. But if Episode VII dethrones Avatar, I will handle it much better than Soviet Starwoids handled Avatars success in 2009 and 2010.
